But check the price before you get too excited. Build quality of this lens is exceptional and for it's tiny pancake size, it is very heavy. We are specialized in vintage cameras and lenses, modern classics and the matching accessories. I have a Leica Frankenfinder, which is probably the best external 28mm viewfinder on the planet. The leather case is a very nice touch and the finder is quite bright especially for the vintage and it has absolutely no haze. I'm not sure why, but I'm very excited about this find. ![]() If so, what does the front lens cap look like? A leica 36 cap fits perfectly. Did your set come with lens caps? Mine did not. I don't imagine they are easy to come by. I'm glad I got the dedicated UVa filter with the lens. Actually, since I scan all my film, inherent contrast won't bother me too much. I'm sending it out to Sherry Krauter tomorrow. Did Canon actually make a hood for this lens? The front element looks pretty well recessed, so I can understand why it might not need one. The Ricoh can be found new for a bit less than. Other options seem to be the Ricoh GV-2 and the Zeiss (not sure the model number). I’ve looked through the Leica 12009 finder, and it seems excellent. She does great work, and stands behind her work 100%. Hi All, I’ve a question about 28mm viewfinders that I thought people may be able to help with. Glad I still have the entire set after 43 years, especially after Sherry K's CLA of the IIIg. In 1966 mine was $150 also, but it came as a graduation gift with a pristine IIIg, Leicavit, 50 Elmarit 2.8 and hood. Actually from the picture, your lens looks just a little more worn than mine, so I'd try it with both color and b & w and see if you like the results. The viewfinder is a gem, bright and with little distortion. Even without a hood, the lens seems to be resistant to flare. My only gripe with the lens is the infinity lock, it is not needed as stopped down the depth of field turns focusing into a hyperfocal set and forget in good light. The focusing mount is smooth and not stiff even after all these years. It doesn’t work 100 for everyone, feels wonderfully intuitive on the M3 and is very much possible to perform with the higher magnification models you see below. ![]() I've never had a problem with fogging, fungus or oil from the diaphram blades. The higher the viewfinder magnification, the easier it is to also use two eye focusing: keep both eyes open, with your right eye looking through the viewfinder. Both the finder and the lens are really well made. Extremely bright viewfinder and very useful for rangefinder shooters who alternate. A nice lens stopped down, especially with B & W, I've had mine since 1966 and it remains in excellent to mint condition even used quite a bit when it was my only wide angle. Rare Voigtlander Mini Finder which has framelines for BOTH 28mm and 35mm. The 28 Canon Serenar f3.5 is accurately described as low contrast, but reasonably sharp, especially for the 1950's-60's vintage. I think you have a good find at a fair price. ![]()
